The Press is Working Hard

As many of you know, Treasure State Network (TSN)  has been getting a lot of press from our open records request.  You can read about the requests here in an earlier blog post.  The counties have implemented a coordinated effort to block the public from getting the records we requested.

The most amazing thing is the response by the counties.  They claim it would take too much money and time to get the records.  That claim is erroneous.  Our original letter simply states that we would like a list of all current contracts that the government entity has with non-government entities over $1,000.  We asked for the identities of the contractors, values, contract purposes, award dates, and whether the contract was bid or no-bid.

This information should be readily available.  If they DO NOT have the information they need to look at themselves and their practices.

One bright spot in this is the media attention.  These open record requests are important to citizens and the press, because so much of the information we get from government is from these requests.  The press can easily see what is going on here and it’s important to put pressure on the counties to open their records and share this information.

Below is a sampling of the media TSN has gotten on this vital issue:

  1. Good job! Keep up the pressure. We have the right to know that which they are trying to keep from us.
