Montana Rep. Rehberg hospitalized after boat crash

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg, two staffers, a state lawmaker and another passenger were hospitalized in stable condition Friday after their 22-foot boat ran at high speed into Flathead Lake rocks in the dark – leaving the vessel perched on the side of a steep outcropping.

“It was a pretty serious accident near Wayfarers state park,” Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesman Tom Palmer said.

Rehberg underwent surgery Friday afternoon for a broken ankle, suffered cuts and bruises and likely faces “significant recovery time,” said friend and former chief of staff Erik Iverson. Rehberg was a passenger in the boat, Iverson said.

Breaking News Rehberg in Accident

Breaking News: Congressman Denny Rehberg in Boating Accident

U.S. Representative Denny Rehberg and state Senator Greg Barkus are among five adults who were injured in a boating accident on Flathead Lake Thursday evening.

Rehberg and Barkus were in stable condition Friday at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

The accident happened sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight Thursday when a 22-foot motorboat crashed into rocks on the shoreline at Wayfarers Park near Big Fork, Northwest Regional Supervisor of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Jim Satterfield said.

Five adults were transported to Kalispell Regional Hospital, two by ambulance and three by Life Flight, Satterfield said.

What Really Happened Outside Obama’s Town Hall Meeting

The Bozeman Tea Party and supporters clashed with paid union thugs outside the President’s Town Hall Meeting.  The union hacks, modern-day brownshirts, included Service Employees International Union, a group affiliated with ACORN and the Montana AFL-CIO who bussed down union members and paid community organizers from Missoula and elsewhere around the state. While the Obama supporters arrived in the middle of the night, claimed our permitted area and had an early advantage with numbers, we eventually turned out 300-350 people and trounced them. The conflict which bordered on getting physically violent was in stark contrast to the tightly orchestrated event inside the hangar where the town hall meeting took place.
