UM Tuition Increase

Last week, the Board of Regents voted to increase tuition at Montana State University (MSU) and University of Montana (UM).   As mentioned in my previous post, both schools wanted this increase.   It would impact all college students and families struggling in these tough economic times.

The University of Montana plans to cut about $2 million from its budget.  The university claims that these cuts will not directly affect the students.

MSU Tuition Increase

tuitionThe Board of Regents has voted to raise tuition 3 percent at Montana State University-Bozeman and the University of Missoula.  This increase will take effect next year on all university students.

MSU must cut $1 million from its budget compared to $2.5 million if tuition would have been frozen.  University officials seem happy they received their request to raise tuition, even though students and families are struggling to pay for college in these tough economic times.

City tries to infringe upon Civil Liberties: Part III

red_light_cameraMontana has finally done the unthinkable.  It has prevented the beginning stages of Big Brother. The governor signed HB-531 into law banning all red light cameras as mentioned in my previous post. The unholy contract between the city of Bozeman and Redflex has been ripped into pieces.

The citizens of Montana can rejoice!!!  They do not need to worry about their privacy being invaded by the watchman eye of the government. The city officials will now be in check. They will be forced to take down all their cameras on the Main Street.

Socialism spreading in Montana

More than 100 activists in Missoula, MT protested against capitalism last Friday. These organizers met at the Wells Fargo’s branch near downtown and demanded a bailout of their own.  Due to the national branch accepting a $25 billion bailout it received last October by the Bush Administration.

An article in the Billings Gazette illustrated that the protesters’ intent to solve the problem was socialism.  Their thoughts are well known with the teachings of Karl Marx.  The protesters called for the death of capitalism and the rise of “solidarity, socialism, communalism and activism.”  This crowd was organized by the Two Rivers branch of the Industrial Workers of the World.

Montana finally gets a Leadership School!!!

The Leadership Institute (LI) hosted its Youth Leadership School, an intense two day workshop, in Missoula, MT this weekend. It brought in young conservative thinkers throughout the state. This school helped establish a foundation based on organizing groups. It stressed how to make a difference in these tough economic times. LI made it clear that lessons learned can be applied to your personal improvement.
